The 5-Min Video Challenge to Connect Lives Through Stories

Storytelling through films had always been a captivating way to showcase how our lives are all connected, be it through our experiences, surroundings or beliefs.

If you are an aspiring filmmaker residing in Australia, Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand, the 5-Min Video Challenge is a short-film competition that invites you to share stories that capture the theme "Connecting Lives".

The competition has two segments in which participants will compete to earn one of two finalists spots to represent their respective countries in the Grand Final, which will be held in Singapore this November. The grand winner and runner-up will receive cash prizes of US$30,000 and US$15,000 respectively.

Now in its second iteration, the competition will introduce online master classes conducted by experts in the film industry with the aim of assisting participants in the ideation process and the art of film-making. A newly-created prize, the Social Media Star Award, has also been introduced.

Award-winning Singaporean director Mr Eric Khoo, who is reprising his role as a judge in the competition, said,  “Five minutes is a comfortable duration for emerging filmmakers to explore and express their ideas. This makes The 5-Min Video Challenge the perfect platform for the creation of original content.”

Last season’s grand winner, Denny Pradana, from Indonesia said, “Winning The 5-min Video Challenge is one of the best things that has happened to us. It’s a great vote of confidence and has helped kickstart our career in the exciting film industry.”
