Off the handy list of simple science demonstrations used to captivate an audience, the Elephant's Toothpaste demonstration is simply one of the best, a staple when doing science for television.
Like soap bubbles and foam? The Elephant's Toothpaste is exactly that but on steroids! (And by that I mean a good dose of hydrogen peroxide, which is basically water with some extra dose of oxygen.)
Why is it called Elephant's Toothpaste? Because it looks like toothpaste but only at the quantity that an elephant would see. (I know, I wasn't satisfied with the answer either.)
You can go behind the science and make your own Elephant's Toothpaste by starting here.
BEHIND THE SCiENcE is a series about facts of the world worth knowing, worth sharing.
