Former fashion photographer Giles Duley was embedded with the US army in Afghanistan in 2011 when he stepped on an improvised explosive device. He lost the lower part of his left arm and now walks with prosthetic legs.

In this inspirational one-off film, we follow him on his first major photography project since he was injured: to the Afghan capital of Kabul to photograph civilians with similar, awful injuries.

Witty and self-deprecating, Giles introduces us to the Medevac crew who rescued him and his girlfriend, Jen, who he took on their first date just before his last, ill-fated, assignment.

In Kabul, the Italian-run Emergency Hospital deals with up to 30 injured civilians a day – each with a heartbreaking story.
